7 Simple Ways to Destress
Life gets overwhelming before you even have a chance to say “no.” Let your stress out with these 7 easy + effective self-care tips.

I know how you feel.
It seems impossible to catch up with life, even though it feels like it's chasing you. You're having an awful time of it, and there's a weariness that’s sinking down into your bones. You’re overwhelmed. You’re tired. You’re done.
De-stressing has become pretty popular over the years, and for good reason. Stress is a constant issue. If you’re trying to find ways to ease the tension in your mind, try some of my favorite tips for de-stressing.
Talk it Out
Sit down with someone who loves you, and work through what’s been stressing you out. I’ve found that talking about my stressors has been a relief in of itself. It's like some of the stress just falls away, and all I've done is verbalize what's been bouncing around in my head. I’ve also found that I can solve my own problems just by talking about them. All I needed to do was say it all to another person.
Take a Shower
Get yourself clean. Wash off all of the dirt, grime, sweat, and negative emotions. Relax under the warm water and forget the stresses of the day. This is a simple, daily task that you can use to purposefully let go of negative emotions.
Go for a Walk
This will give you an opportunity to unwind while doing something physical. That way you get a bit of exercise while sorting through your day/week/month. Say goodbye to those bad thoughts, let them go, and focus on how you can continue to make your future better. Sometimes you just need a distraction.
De-stress by Listening to Music
When I worked in food service, I’d come home after a long day, pace around the house, and listen to music. It wasn't something I decided to do to relieve stress. It just happened. In the afternoons/evenings, I kept finding myself pacing, pacing, pacing, and listening to music. It finally hit me that it was my subconscious's way of de-stressing. And it worked.
One of the best ways to handle stress is to take it to God. Take a look at these verses and let out your worries to God. Try praying a few Psalms. Don't know where to start? Try Psalm 42 and go from there.
God will always provide for his children, and he’ll give you the peace you need.
Use Lavender to Calm You Down
This will help get you in the right mood for relaxing, and it’s also a great thing to use before heading off to bed.
Ease Your Anxiety
There are a top few things that make my anxiety worse: not sleeping enough, too much caffeine, and tension in my relationships.
Get Good Sleep
This will help you out in a lot of ways, physical health-wise and mental health-wise.
Cut Back on the Caffeine
Not everyone is as sensitive to caffeine as I am. But due to not wanting a caffeine addiction (and not wanting to consume all the sugar I take with my coffee), I don’t have a tolerance to it. Caffeine takes my anxiety and shoots it through the roof, especially when combined with other issues.
Don’t Let Other People Get to You
Life isn’t perfect. People hurt you, and you hurt people. This causes broken situations and lots of tension. While it’s easy to get caught up in that, don’t. Think on better things. Focus on how to fix the problem at hand, not whose fault it is. Focus on forgiveness, not who wronged you.
Try a Weighted Blanket
Something that helps me calm down at night is using a weighted blanket. If you have nighttime anxiety issues, trouble falling asleep, or trouble staying asleep, this might work for you. My weighted blanket gives me an extra layer of comfort. It helps me feel less anxious at night, so I would definitely recommend it.
